County Netball Championships
U14 team win bronze medal
The Hertfordshire County Netball Championships proved to be a challenging experience with highly competitive opposition. The U14 competition took place on Saturday 10th October at Marriotts School in Stevenage. Nineteen teams competed in what is always an exciting day of school netball.
The team comprised of Year 8 and 9 pupils started the day well with wins over Chancellors and Leventhorpe. Despite great defending from Abby Clark and Ellie Godsave the team lost a tough game against Berkhamsted. The girls picked themselves up to win the remaining group games against Chauncy and St Georges.
Influential centre court play from Megan Thomas ensured the team won the quarter final against Haileybury. The semi-final against St Edmonds College was a close encounter, as the game was tied 6 – 6 at half time. With the game going goal for goal in the second half, one unforced error allowed the opposition to take the win by one goal.
Despite the disappointment from the semi-final the team played extremely well to beat St Albans High in the 3rd/4th place off and take home the bronze medal. Team members include: Abby Clarke (captain), Megan Thomas (vice-captain), Ellie Godsave, Eleanor Turpin, Annalie Wood, Emily Carter, Heidi Bishop, Lottie Keys, Gaby Bryne, Ellie Oswick, Niamh Stevens, Heather Anderson.
Earlier on this term, the U16 and U19 County Championships also took place. The U16 team reached the quarter finals.
