Nicky Morris Athletics Championships

Broxbourne Team

The annual Nicky Morris athletics championships took place at Wodson Park in Ware. Eighteen schools from across Hertfordshire and East Essex competed in the competition. The competition has been running for twenty-seven years and is solely for female athletes.

The competition involves a number of additional events including the 300m hurdles and the 4 x 400m relay. As always Broxbourne fielded a very competitive team despite a number pupils being away on school trips; Year 11 and 13 pupils gave up their free time to come and compete.

Year 10, 11, 12 and 13 Team

In the Year 10 and above competition Broxbourne finished second, with an array of excellent results. Outstanding performances came from Amber Oswick – 1st Discus (distance), Hannah Booth – 2nd 1500m (5:25mins), Megan Pryde – 3rd 100m (14.8sec) and triple jump (8.48m), Alice Green – 3rd 300m hurdles (66.1sec), Anabel Ashman – 3rd 80m hurdles (16.4sec), Jessica Williams – 3rd 400m (76.1sec) and 3rd long jump (3.58m), Amba Gooden – 3rd Shot Putt (8.07m), 4 x 100m relay team of Amba Gooden, Megan Pryde, Stephanie Kushanu and Andriana Robinson – 3rd (58.8), 4 x 400m relay team of Jasmine Bowman, Alice Green,  Jessica Williams and Hannah Booth – 3rd (5:18min)

Year 8/9 Team

In the Year 8/9 competition Broxbourne finished fourth, with some real reliable performances. Outstanding performances came from Heidi Bishop – 2nd shot Putt (8.21m), Janaya Best – 2nd 100m (13.5sec), Ellie Godsave – 3rd 1500m (6:18mins), Charlotte Hobbs – 3rd Long Jump (4.04cm), Sophie Bechtel – 3rd 80m Hurdles (15.00sec), relay team of Lottie Keys, Janaya Best, Charlotte Hobbs and Sophie Bechtel – 3rd (60.2sec)

Year 7 Team

In the Year 7 competition Broxbourne finished fourth with only four points separating the top four teams. Outstanding performances came from Ruby Olseen – 1st hurdles (12.5sec), Chelise Fleming – 1st 200m (30.1sec) and 3rd javelin (23.15m), Ela Norton – 2nd 800m (2:54min), Molly Hindley – 2nd shot (7.10m), Sophie Smith – 3rd 1500m (6:06mins), relay team of Emily Squires, Ellie-Mae Koert, Emily Chelise Fleming and Ruby Olseen – 3rd (61sec).
