County Netball Championships

U19 and U16

The annual county netball championships took place at Stanborough School in Welwyn Garden City. As always Broxbourne took part with competitive teams in both the U19 and U16 competition.

In the U19 competition, a confident start against St Georges saw the girls win their opening game 14-0. With a long gap to the second game, a scrappy match against Freman College meant the team could only salvage a draw. The toughest game in the group came from professional outfit St Albans High who finished clear winners 11-7. The team lifted their heads to win their two remaining matches against Royal Masonic and Herts & Essex to ensure a place in the knockout stages.

The girls saved their best netball of the day for the semi-final and despite sensational defensive and centre court play, the luck was against them and they lost by one goal to Berkhamsted School.

In the U16 section, the majority of our team was comprised of Year 10 pupils, who have another year in this age group. The team started with a tough match against Herts and Essex, which resulted in a 13 – 9 defeat. The girls played some great netball, demonstrating a lot of what they had been working on in practice but after losing to St Albans High 15 – 9, their chances of qualifying for the knock-out stages had disappeared. Four wins against Hitchin Girls, St Marys Catholic, Haberdashers Askes and Freman College meant the team finished a very respectable third in the group.
