Jazz Band performs at the Royal albert Hall

In March, The Broxbourne School Jazz Band took part in a major Music Service event, The Hertfordshire Schools' Gala, at the Royal Albert Hall.

This followed on from their success at Disneyland Paris last July where they performed on the Videopolis Stage.

The 31 strong band had the packed Royal Albert Hall audience tapping their feet to their sparkling and energetic renditions of ‘Thieves in the Temple’ and ‘Soulman’.  Band leader, Nina Kornhauser writes: ‘I am so proud of what they have achieved.  Our school is fully comprehensive in every sense of the word.  Members of the band range from age 12 to 18 and vary in standard from grade 3 up to grade 8.  They have had to work incredibly hard to achieve this high standard.  The pupils have shown amazing commitment and dedication and are a credit to the school.  It was a wonderful opportunity for the pupils to experience performing in a professional setting and the audience greatly enjoyed their performance”.

In addition to the Jazz Band’s set, the event featured several other high quality performances including a premiere of ‘If I Had Wings’ by Will Todd, sung beautifully by the massed choir of Hertfordshire schools, accompanied by the HSSO Orchestra, and narrated by Michael Rosen.
