School Direct Places

For the 2017 - 2018 academic year we have School Direct vacancies in Physics and Mathematics.

School Direct – Non Salaried

The School Direct model is a school-led teacher training route, where participating schools recruit and select their own trainees.  The School Direct Tuition Fee Funded option is for high calibre graduates who wish to gain the PGCE qualification while based in school.  Our Teacher Training Programme is run in conjunction with the Institute of Education University of London (IOE) and leads to a PGCE qualification with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Trainees attend exactly the same lectures as all other PGCE students at the IOE but also benefit from an extensive school based programme.  Trainees pay a tuition fee to the IOE and are eligible for bursaries of up to £25,000.  Trainees on the School Direct Tuition Fee programme are not employed by the school and do not receive a salary.  However, trainees will be trained in a highly supportive and aspirational environment and will have the opportunity to develop the skills necessary for the delivery of creative, purposeful and challenging teaching and learning.

The structure of the programme ensures there is scope for guided teaching and team teaching at the start of the training.  There is flexibility in the training to allow the teaching timetable to grow at a rate that suits the trainee within the constraints of the training year.  Trainees are part of a team, receiving intensive support from experienced teachers and mentors.  The trainee will also spend time in a second school for four weeks, usually in the spring term.  Trainees will have full access to the university, a dynamic facilitator of both innovative and traditional approaches to teacher training.

Entry Requirements

You should be a graduate, preferably with a 2:1 or above who demonstrate an aptitude for teaching.  All applicants must have a grade C in GCSE English and Mathematics.  All successful applicants will be subject to a CRB check.

How to apply

Application for entry is through UCAS, which provides a single admission system for all the main postgraduate routes into teaching.   To apply for a School Direct place you need to use the UCAS Teacher Training site which can be found at www.ucas.com/apply/teacher-training.  The training for the School Direct Tuition Fee runs from mid-September 2016 until 30th June 2017 and the application process for this route is now open.  Once applications have been checked to ensure statutory and provider requirements are met they will be forwarded to the relevant school.  Individual schools will contact applicants directly where they are interested in proceeding with applications.
