Author Dan Smith visited the school and inspired young readers
Dan Smith, author of 'Big Game', came to speak to students about his book, the film and life as a writer on Wednesday 25th February. The film of the book, about a boy in Finland who has to help the President of the USA in a fight for survival, features Samuel L Jackson and will released in cinemas from May 2015.
Dan met students from Years 7 and 8 and talked about his childhood spent growing up around the world, of his difficult time at boarding school and where he got the inspiration to write. Year 7 student, Ann Peiris said "We were really lucky to hear him speak. He shared his enthusiasm for reading and writing. I'm going to read the book and see the film." Krystle Okine, also in Year 7, enthused "He showed us how reading helps improve your vocabulary. It's also a great way to use your imagination and escape into another world."
Mrs Shaper (Library Resources Director) said "We were very lucky to have a visit from Dan Smith so close to the release of the film of his book. He showed us the film trailer and read a piece from the book and it certainly looks exciting. Dan also told us how important reading is for all sorts of reasons and, in Dan's case, as a source of ideas for his stories. I am delighted that he was able to inspire so many students to try his books."
