Broxbourne retain district athletics title
The annual District Athletics competition took place at Wodson Park, Ware on Friday. Pupils from Year 7 to 13 represented the school in a full complement of track and field events, ranging from sprint hurdles to the 1500m steeplechase.
The morning was mainly comprised of heats, with all Broxbourne pupils safely qualifying for the finals in the afternoon. The senior team made up of Year 12 and 13 pupils, did themselves proud picking up vital points, with team captain Megan Pryde and Frankie Saniti leading by example in their events.
Tom Kennedy, achieved the outstanding pupil award for Broxbourne, with wins in the inter-boys long jump, relay and a second place in the 200m. Grace Neville was equally impressive on the track, winning the inter-girls 300m and relay, alongside a 3rd place in the triple jump. In the junior age group Ralph Davies yet again impressed in 1500m both winning and setting a new personal best; Alara Norton was also a clear winner in the 800m.
As the afternoon progressed there were more pupils setting personal bests, narrowly beating rivals and stepping up to the challenge. At the end of a tough day of competition, all pupils stood proudly as Broxbourne retained their title of District Champions, now for the 3rd year in a row!
