Year 11 Student Clara Dileto raises an amazing £40,000 for cancer charity
Year 11 student, Clara Dileto, organised a phenomenally successful charity ball at Sopwell House in St Albans in aid of Children With Cancer. The ball included a three-course meal and an auction of prizes including a coaching session with Boris Becker and a signed photograph of Mohammed Ali.
The charity is close to Clara’s heart, as she was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2005 before undergoing chemotherapy and being given the all-clear in 2007.
Clara’s father, Joe Dlleto, said she wanted to help other children and their parents: “When she was in hospital she bonded with other children and they became more like family than friends. She was very close to one boy who unfortunately lost his battle.
She said that parents should not have to go through the pain and that is why she was doing this, to help find a cure for this disease.”
Her mother, Francesca, and sister, Daniela, supported Clara in organising the event and she was also grateful to local sponsors, Glinwell PLC and Nonna’s Kitchen.
Cliff O’Gorman (a representative from Children With Cancer) attended the event and thanked Clara for her achievement, saying he felt privileged to have the opportunity to talk about the charity and thanking Clara for “Her brave and courageous speech. We all wish her well.”
