District Combined Events
More medals for talented athletes
At the annual district athletics combined events, Broxbourne returned with a number of medals. The competition involves four pupils in each age group competing in five different events: hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot putt and 800m. In additional to individual placing’s there are medals for the top teams; pupils’ individuals points are totalled and the school with the highest cumulative total wins the competition.
The Year 7 girls’ team of Chelise Fleming, Zoe Wood, Zara Duignan and Emily Squires won their age group by setting a new championship record with a total of 4735 points, scoring over 600 points more than Presdales in second place. In addition Chelise Flemming was the highest scoring Year 7 girl by a long way with a total of 1888 points, while Zoe Wood finished in an impressive third place scoring 1545 points.
In the Year 7 boys competition the team finished in second place; Richard Hale won the competition by just over 100 points, setting a new record in the process. The team of Alex Garcia, Toby Sawtell, Michael Attah and Robin Kettle performed superbly all day. After a sensational run in the 800m Alex Garcia was rewarded with an individual bronze medal.
In the Year 9 competition both teams finished in fourth place. The boys’ team was made up of Jake Hughes, Tom Weald Taylor Thompon-Minton and Ralph Davies. Jake Hughes was the stand out performer winning a bronze medal in the individual competition. Members of the girls’ team included Janaya Best, Charlotte Hobbs, Ellie Godsave and Lottie Keys.
