Talented Year 13 pupil Danny Daniels has been excelling himself on the world stage in golf.
Danny, currently Herts Boys Champion, played a significant part in the England Boys victory in the recent Canadian International Junior Challenge. Wearing the England kit for the first time, Danny was part of the team of four who ensured that a dramatic final five holes. The team pulled back the seven shot lead which the Canadian hosts had generated, to win the title by one shot. Danny birdied two of the last five holes on his way to three-under 69, the low score of the day. Danny finished equal fifth at the end of the 54-hole event.
In addition, Danny was one of four Hertfordshire based players who took part in the R & A British Boys Championships at Muirfield and The Renaissance in Scotland and one of two who made it through the qualifying strokeplay rounds to the matchplay stage. Danny qualified through with rounds of 76 and 70, good enough to tie for 29th place. Danny made his way through 3 rounds to be placed in the top eight before finally succumbing to the eventual runner up, Alejandro Aguilera of Spain, in the quarter final match, losing on the 22nd hole.
During a busy summer Danny also represented Herts Boys at the England Golf County Finals, where the team finished fourth. In a week to remember Danny won the Essendon Junior Open with a 3 under par round of 69. He followed that with 36 holes in the Hertfordshire Boys County Championship at Mid-Herts the next day with under par rounds of 67,68 for a total of 135, 3 under par. Two days later he competed in the East Berks Junior Stag against a strong field including county teams from Kent, Surrey, Bedfordshire, BB&O and Hampshire. Danny's rounds of 69, 69 contributed to the Herts Boys U18 team finishing 2nd.
