U14 Netball Squad
Broxbourne School return to Stanborough at the weekend to compete in the U14 county netball championships. A competition always filled with excitement, didn’t disappoint this year.
Initially the squad of twelve had five tough group games to contest. A dominant win over Presdales (15-5) in the first match, ensured confidence levels were high. The team then went on to beat Haberdashers Askes (18-3), Roundwood Park (20-3) and Chancellors (20-3) before the last and toughest group game against Berkhamsted. Accurate shooting all morning from Emily Lush, Zoe Wood and Georgie Wood meant it was time for the defensive unit to be put to the test against an incredibly tall shooter. Niamh Stevens and Amber Clark demonstrated technical excellence in the circle to restrict their tall shooter and ensure the team took the win 15-11.
In the semi-final Broxbourne faced tough opposition from St Albans High. Fantastic centre court play from Ellie Oswick (captain), Ellie Wood and Emily Squires ensured the ball was turned over several times and smoothly linked into the attack. The girls’ won the match 9-3.
The final saw both section A teams return for a rematch. After their intense efforts throughout the day and a Berkhamsted keen to get revenge from their earlier defeat, the final proved to be one match too many and resulted in a narrow loss 9-13, to finish runners up.
Parents, teachers and pupils are incredibly proud of the achievements at the weekend. All pupils took the court and played some incredible netball. The team comprised of pupils from Years 7, 8 and 9 will compete in the regional championships in January.
