On Saturday 28th January, The Broxbourne School U14 team competed in the east region championships at Stanborough School in Welwyn Garden City. After finishing runners-up in the county championships back in October, the squad have trained extremely hard to prepare for the challenge.
Despite the dismal weather conditions the girls were upbeat and enthusiastic. Six group games ensured the pupils from Years 7, 8 and 9 would be put to the test. After a nervous win in the first match (Norwich School) the team generated momentum to win the next two matches (County Upper and Longsands Academy). Unfortunately a few team errors resulted an unexpected defeat to Southend High School for girls. The girls went out with purpose against eventual group winners Bedford Girls School. Despite leading at half time 4 – 1, the opposition upped their game in the second half to finish eventual winners. The final group game (The Ockendon Academy) saw the girls finish with a win but unfortunately the earlier losses meant they finished third in their group.
Well done to all the girls who participated in the tournament.
