The Broxbourne School entered a team of intermediate girls in to the freestyle and medley relay races at the ESSA East Regional Championships. The ESSA East Region represents Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Hertfordshire. The intermediate age group includes pupils from Year 9 and 10.
Year 10 pupils’ Harriet Newman, Emily Lush and Ezme Gladwell were joined by Year 9 pupil Ela Norton. The team of four faced very stiff competition from the thirty-four schools competing but managed to win a bronze medal in the freestyle relay in a time of 1:56:63 minutes. A second bronze medal was secured in the medley relay with a time of 2:10:85 minutes.
As a result of their outstanding performances, the team of girls’ finished in the top thirty schools from the 230 entries across the country and have therefore qualified for the national championships finals. The finals will take place on 18th November at the London Aquatic Centre, location of the 2012 Olympic Games.
