Sixth Formers take part in a mock debate at County Hall
Fifteen Year 12 students were invited to take part in a mock debate during local democracy week in October.
Along with four other secondary schools the students were presented with a case study that involved much discussion and decision making which brought to life the process of how important local decisions are taken at local level. The event gave them the opportunity to consider a political issue from a variety of different community perspectives before taking on the role of a County Councillor to participate in a decision-making debate. After much discussion and preparation two of our students, Lucy Dixon and Felicia Martino, delivered a confident and convincing petition to the Chairman, Vice Chairman and Councillors of Hertfordshire County Council.
Whilst working alongside some local councillors the students enhanced their understanding of local politics and the importance of democracy.
