The Year 8 netball team were crowned county champions after a thrilling match against Berkhamsted School. After months of participating in the competition, the knockout tournament came to a close at St Albans High School, where the finalists from across the county came together to compete.
The team started nervously, going 4 – 1 down in the first five minutes. The girls’ regrouped, managing to draw level, 5 – 5 at the end of the first quarter. Outstanding circle defence from Amber Clark and Amber Williams unnerved the opposition, turning over the ball countless times. Chloe Lock worked tirelessly in the centre court helping to transition the ball between the defensive and attacking thirds. The game was end to end with neither team capitalising on their opportunities. Libby Burton linked well with Libbie Hicks to provide more scoring opportunities. With three seconds on the clock, Georgie Wood netted the ball to ensure victory, 13 – 12. The win was well deserved and a credit to how committed the girls’ have been to training this season.
The county cup was making its debut this academic year with a large number of schools from across the county taking part. The squad started their quest back in September with a 60 – 1 win against Princess Helena College in the first round. The quarter finals took place in November, yet again the team dominated the opposition winning 46 – 2 against Queens. In the semi-final, Broxbourne beat Queenswood 50 – 2.
Well done to all girls who took part throughout the competition.
