Year 9 pupils enjoyed an assembly delivered by the local fire brigade and Karen Wheeler from the Lee Valley Park Organisation. The assembly aimed to raise awareness of the dangers associated with swimming in rivers and lakes.
The water safety project was instigated following the drowning of a 17-year-old boy, Robbie Lea, in the local area back May 2017. The assembly provided the opportunity to discuss strategies about how to avoid situations which may prove dangerous, in addition to how best to help someone experiencing difficulties when in open water.
A number of Year 9 pupils who took part in the water safety project launch back in February are adopting the role of water safety ambassadors at The Broxbourne School. They plan to raise awareness of the dangers associated with swimming the rivers and lakes to pupils in Year 7 and 8.
