Rotary Design Technology Tournament 2018
Three teams from the Year 10 Product Design class volunteered to represent the school at the Annual Design Technology Tournament at The Spotlight, organised by the Rotary Club of Hoddesdon.
This is a competition against other schools in the area and is Technology and Engineering based; students worked as a team of 4 to successfully problem solve a task. This year, the students had to design and test a ‘Launcher’ prototype which was able to remotely launch a ‘space capsule’ to a minimum height of 3m, a parachute had to then be deployed, and the capsule had to land safely near the launch site. All three teams managed to meet the competition criteria fully.
One of our teams left with the winning shield. Well done to Alfie Stroud, Sonny Froom, Marley Lowe and Nathaniel Hobbs who won the Intermediary (KS4) category. A very well done to Anika Coby, Lucy Roberts, Kathryn Troll, Molly Naylor, Megan Quayle, Simge Horoz, Tiegan Bird and Louise Clements who were also outstanding on the day.
The students were an absolute credit to the school; their behaviour was impeccable. They were faced with many challenges along the way but never gave up; they encouraged each other constantly and they worked together consistently as a united team!
