Pupils recognised for outstanding achievements

A number of Broxbourne School pupils enjoyed a fantastic evening at the Active Broxbourne 2018 Sports Awards. The awards evening, recognises the outstanding voluntary contributions to sport, in addition to the incredible sporting talent across the local community. Now, in its tenth year, the awards ceremony took place at the Spotlight in Hoddesdon.

The U15 girls swimming team won one of the most prestigious awards of the evening: ‘Outstanding Secondary School Performance of the Year’. The team of four, consisting of Harriet Newman, Ezme Gladwell, Ela Norton and Emily Lush were recognised for their outstanding achievements in swimming. After winning two bronze medals at the regional championships in November 2017, their season cumulated at the 60th ESSA Secondary Schools’ Team Championship Final. Held at the London Aquatics Centre, the girls’ competed against the top thirty schools in the country in the freestyle and medley relay. The team were awarded a trophy and a £100 voucher to use towards school sports equipment, by sports retailer Decathlon.

Year 12 pupil Holly Amos was commended for her incredible achievements in dance in the ‘Young Sportsperson of the Year’ category. Earlier this year, Holly was awarded a scholarship to participate in an exchange with Arte Balleto Dance School in Sicily. For a summary of her most recent achievements please click here

Year 10 pupil Ellie Oswick was commended for her outstanding progress and achievements in the sport of netball via the ‘Young Sportsperson of the Year’ category. Ellie who has captained the Schools netball team for five years has enjoyed success on many levels. For a summary of her most recent achievements please click here

Year 12 pupil James Kettle was shortlisted for ‘Young Sportsperson of the Year’ following his achievements in the sport of canoeing. For a summary of his most recent achievements please click here

The U14 netball team were one of five teams shortlisted for the ‘Outstanding Secondary School Performance of the Year’ award. The squad made up of pupils from Year 8 and 9 have enjoyed success at both a county and district level. The squad won the Year 8 Hertfordshire county cup, Year 8 district cup and the Hertfordshire County Tournament, which lead to qualification for the regional championships in 2019.
