Sixth Form Open Evening
U14 and U16
On Saturday 14th March the National Netball Finals took place at Stanborough School in Welwyn garden City. The top eighteen schools in the age groups U14, U16 and U19 from across the country competed for the title of national champions. Despite the uncertain circumstances the tournament went ahead and proved to a fantastic day of netball.
The U14 squad started the day superbly, with a 13-5 win against midlands school, Bromsgrove. The squad, comprised of four Year 8 pupils and six Year 9 pupils built upon their first match with a 15 – 1 win against Whitburn Church of England Academy. The standard of netball the team were displaying was a delight to watch and two more wins against Sheffield High School and Wellingborough followed. The afternoon session was tough; the team notched up two more wins and a loss against the eventual third placed team, Stockport Grammar School 10 – 11. In a competition dominated by private schools, The Broxbourne School arguably produced some of the best netball on display in the U14 age group, narrowly missing out on a place in the knockout stages, finishing third in their group.
In the U16 age group our squad were equally as fantastic. Again, a relatively young squad with only three Year 11 pupils amongst eight Year 10 pupils. Despite a slow start against Wrekin College, losing 10 – 12, the girls’ changed gear in their second match beating South Hunsley 15 – 5. They continued to find their rhythm on court notching up impressive wins against George Spencer Academy (15 – 6), Newlands Girls School (17 – 10) and St Catherine’s School (17 – 10). The last group match was a tough one with the squad losing against the eventual third placed team, Blue Coat School 13 – 17 and just missing out on a place in the knockout stages, finishing fourth in their group.
We are incredibly proud of what all these girls have achieved this season. We are extremely lucky the tournament went ahead, generating memories that will last forever.
