County Champions 2014
Success at the Hertfordshire County Netball Championships
At the county netball championships Broxbourne’s U19 netball team retained their title after a very impressive display of netball throughout the day. They comprehensively beat all six teams in the group winning the closest match coming by over 10 goals. The semi-final was a title fought contest against rivals St Albans High, with tight defending keeping goals to a minimum. After numerous turn overs Broxbourne were eventual winners 6 - 2. The final against Haberdashers Askes was a little more one-sided with all eleven squad members taking to the court throughout the match. The final score was 14 - 3 crowning the team as county champions 2014. The squad have now qualified for the regional championships in January, where they will represent Hertfordshire.
The U16 county championships were held on the same day at Stanborough School in Welwyn Garden City. With only two players from year 11 involved, the squad was predominantly made up of year 10 pupils. The determination from all players to be successful was staggering and the standard of netball that they produced was very impressive. The team dominated the group, winning all six matches comprehensively. The quarter-final was an extremely tight match, winning 7 - 6 against Berkhamsted School. The semi-final proved one step too far and the young squad narrowly lost to Freman College 10 – 13. The squad should be extremely proud of their achievement and excited that most of them have another year in the age group.
