Broxbourne Jazz Band

On Sunday 3rd March the thirty strong Broxbourne Jazz Band headed over to Watford by coach for the Regionals of the ‘Music for Youth’ Festival. This is a National Music Festival with thousands of schools taking part from around the country. They performed three of their strongest numbers from their current repertoire to professional ‘mentors’ and an audience of other performers and their supporters. They performed brilliantly with Preeya Harte bringing the house down with her vocals on ‘Feeling Good’. The adjudicating mentors said of the band ‘a confident outfit’ and ‘wonderful performance’ and of Preeya ‘fabulous, soulful vocals’. We are keeping our fingers crossed that they will be selected to perform on  a main stage at the next National round in Birmingham in July, but even if they don’t, they were an absolute credit to both the Music department and the school.

Jazz Band Tour - Belgium 2019

27 members of the school Jazz Band set off to Belgium on tour.  In addition to two stunning performances at very contrasting venues, they also managed to squeeze in some sightseeing in Bruges, a visit to the Chocostory Museum, a canal ride and a morning at the Bellewaerde Theme Park. The pupils ranged from Year 7 to Year 13, and also included one of our very lovely ex-pupils, Kiara Whelan.

We were so proud, not only of their outstanding performances at the Wapenplein Bandstand Ostend band Stand and the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk Church in De Panne, but also of their behaviour and attitude throughout the trip. They were a real credit to the school. We were warmly received by the Belgian locals who praised the band highly for their level of professionalism and even gave us a standing ovation!
