Christmas Concert at the Spotlight
Close to a hundred and fifty pupils took part in a magnificent Christmas Concert at The Spotlight to round off the term. All of our marvellous extra-curricular groups got the opportunity to present the work that they have been preparing over the term and were of course, expertly led by teachers from our fabulous peripatetic team. The evening featured all of our ensembles including the guitar group, string group, flute choir, saxophone & clarinet ensemble, brass group, steel pans, jazz band and our three choirs. A special mention must go to Rachel Macneil and Stanley McElligott from the drama department as they performed with much hilarity the ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’ (but not as you know it) with the Senior Choir.
Well done to all of our superb Year 12 and Year 13 soloists who performed so beautifully and took on the task of performing alone on the huge, rather daunting Spotlight stage. Towards the end of the night the Senior and Junior choirs joined forces and nearly one hundred pupils sang their hearts out in ‘Believe’ from ‘The Polar Express’ and ‘Dry Your Tears Afrika’ from the film ‘Amistad’. Well done for not only singing in Mende (one of Sierra Leone's major languages) but also doing it from memory! Our amazing Jazz Band rounded off the evening with some classics and a Christmas number ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ featuring our wonderful string group and a beautiful vocal solo from Preeya Harte.
So many ‘thank yous’ - to our amazing team of peripatetic teachers who coached their groups to an incredibly high standard, Ms Pateman, Ms Martino and Ms Brunton for all your support on the night and a massive thank you to the team of back stage crew, who arrived bleary eyed at 7.30am that morning and worked all day until 10.30pm. You were amazing!
Well done to everyone involved – it was a wonderful celebration of the amazing talent at Broxbourne.
